
Montek Singh Ahluwalia (born on November 24, 1943) is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of India, which is a Cabinet level position in the government. He has earlier held several positions in the Government of India including Finance Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Member, Planning Commission and a Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. Prior to his current position he was the first Director of the Independent Evaluation Office at the International Monetary Fund, a position he assumed on July 9, 2001. |
Mr. Ahluwalia has published in a number of prominent Indian and international journals and books on issues connected with economic and financial development. He co-authored ‘Re-distribution with Growth: An Approach to Policy’ published in 1975. Mr. Ahluwalia is married to Isher Judge Ahluwalia and they have two children. |
