Joachim Nagel
President, Deutsche Bundesbank; Member, Governing Council of the European Central Bank
Joachim Nagel is President of the Deutsche Bundesbank. He is a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB), a Governor at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
From 1999 to 2016, he served in various management positions at the Bundesbank. In 2010, he became a member of the Executive Board overseeing the Directorates General Markets, Controlling and Information Technology. Between 2008 and 2016, he headed the Bundesbank’s financial crisis task force. From 2016 to 2020, Joachim Nagel was in charge of international financing at the KfW Group, serving one year as General Manager before becoming a member of its Executive Board. In 2020, he moved to the BIS, where he served as Deputy Head of the Banking Department until the end of 2021.
Joachim Nagel studied Economics at the University of Karlsruhe from 1985 to 1991 and received a PhD in 1997. Since 2017, he has been an honorary professor at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW).
